Geometry Errors
The CAD geometry could not be imported, validated, or meshed. Why, and how to fix it.
If you only have 2 minutes
Almost every geometry error is a CAD problem you fix in your CAD system and re-export, not something to change in Dr.Q. Export closed, watertight solid bodies as STEP, and remove sketches, surfaces, and wireframe entities. Multiple solids are fine: for a contact simulation you keep the contacting parts as separate solids. See Import Geometry for the full preparation checklist.
Common errors
- Error 127: model validation found problems in the geometry (gaps or non-watertight surfaces, self-intersections, slivers, tiny features). Repair the geometry in your CAD system as a clean closed solid and re-export. The message reports how many issues were found.
- Errors 128, 130, 210: the CAD import produced an empty model, failed outright, or the file could not be read. Export solid geometry as STEP, and check the file is not empty or corrupt. Error 210 also reports the specific read error.
- Error 296: the CAD file contains 1D or 2D entities (wireframes or surfaces) and cannot be meshed. FEM needs solid (3D) volumes; remove sketches and surface geometry and export closed solids.
How to prepare and export geometry, which formats are accepted, and how Dr.Q's automatic healing works is covered in Import Geometry.
